Dear Ms Smith,
RE: State-funded school rankings by gender of entry

Thank you for your request for information, which was received 30th August, reference
number: 2013/0053637. Your request was as follows:

“I would like to know the school rankings for boy only state secondary schools in the
united kingdom”

The requested information for England is publicly available from the 2012 School and
College Performance Tables Download Data webpage at the link below:

[1]http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/perf...

Please click on the “XLS” icon under the “KS4 Results” heading under the “Attainment”
section. You can then filer the table by gender of entry (“EGENDER” variable) and school
type (“NFTYPE” variable). The ”metadata” link at the top of the webpage displays
information about data fields and description. Once you click on it, next to “KS4
Attainment Results” you will see a “KS4 Abbreviations” link, which will display the school
type abbreviations.

The state-funded sector includes the following schools:

1.      Local Authority maintained mainstream schools (Community Schools, Voluntary Aided
Schools, Voluntary Controlled Schools and Foundation Schools);
2.      Academies;
3.      Free Schools;
4.      City Technology Colleges;
5.      State-funded special schools (include Community Special Schools, Foundation Special
Schools, Special Sponsored Academies, Special Converter Academies and Special Free Schools,
excluding hospital schools, Pupil Referral Units, Alternative Provision and independent
schools).

You may find useful “Filtering in Microsoft Excel” guidance attached.
