Boscastle automated flood warnings

The request was successful.

Dear Environment Agency,

This year, 2018, will be the 14 year anniversary of the Boscastle floods and automated flood warnings are still not in place for the area.

Please provide copies of all internal correspondence regarding the implementation of automated flood warnings for residents likely to be affected by future flash flooding incidents so that the reasons for the delay and names of persons bearing responsibility for it can be entered into the public record.

Yours faithfully,

Karin Mabberley

Dear DCIS Enquiries,

Thank you for the information you sent me. Unfortunately it does not relate to my request which concerned *Automated* flood warnings. For clarity, an automated flood warning is when the telemetry monitoring river levels generates an alert - as a result of fast rising river levels in a flash flood event - and these alerts are translated into warnings that are quickly and automatically disseminated to at-risk homes and businesses by the flood warning system without human intervention. I understand that your colleagues in Wales have been able to respond to the need for automated flood warnings in areas likely to be hit by flash floods but that Environment Agency, some 14 years after the Boscastle tragedy, has not. It is this delay that is the subject of my request.

Yours sincerely,

Karin Mabberley
