Dear Mr Saunders

Freedom of Information request:  FOI-71250

Thank you for your request dated 23 January 2023

Our response is as follows:

We are hoping to compile information on London Borough specific support
services for those impacted by Gender-Based Violence.

Please may you provide the following info:

1) Information on any council funded, supported or sponsored activity that
aims to support/protect victims of gender-based violence - particularly
young people.

Royal Greenwich funds a number of activities to support victims of
gender-based Violence.  These services are to provide support for people
of all ages and include:

·         Refuge provision that provides 30 bedspaces for women and their
children. This includes 1 refuge of 4 bed spaces for women with complex
needs.

·         Local helpline and website for victims and professionals which
provide advice and guidance.

·         Floating support for low/medium risk victims of Domestic Abuse.

·         3 x Freedom programmes to enable women to recognise and
understand Domestic Abuse.

The above services are all provided by Housing for Women, under the name
of Greenwich Domestic Violence and Abuse (GDVA) service.

·         Independent Domestic Abuse Advocates (IDVAs) to provides support
and guidance to high-risk victims of Domestic Abuse.

·         Children’s IDVA to support the children of high-risk victims of
Domestic Abuse

·         GP education project to ensure surgeries are equipped to respond
effectively to Domestic abuse

The above services are all provided by the Her Centre

·         Greenwich also provides all the coordination of the Multi-Agency
Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) to ensure effective information sharing
and action planning to ensure the protection and support of the highest
risk victims of domestic abuse.

·         Greenwich provides high-risk victims of DA access to counselling
support run by the Mary Dolly Foundation.

2) Information on any council funded, supported or sponsored activity that
aims to support/rehabilitate perpetrators of gender-based violence -
particularly young people.

Greenwich runs a Domestic Abuse Perpetrators project, which ensures
proactive engagement and monitoring for the most worrying perpetrators in
high-risk MARAC cases, where there are factors that can be addressed which
could reduce the risk of further offending and increase the safety of the
victim and any children involved. For example, this can include
encouragement and support to address substance misuse, mental health and
housing issues. The project also provides a therapeutic service to
encourage behaviour change run by the Mary Dolly Foundation.

Police and probation officers are also involved in the project, ensuring
that, whenever further offending takes place, timely intervention and
enforcement against the perpetrators is also in place alongside the
engagement and support offered.

3) Information on any council funded, supported or sponsored activity that
aims to support schools or teachers to help their students in relation to
gender-based violence.

Greenwich has funded a theatre-based production and workshop for all
secondary schools to explore issues around misogyny and gender-based
violence. This was provided in 2022/23 and will be rerun in this summer
term.

This project has been followed up with the Embrace project that provides
workshop groups for young men and boys identified by their teachers as
demonstrating worrying and negative attitudes to women and girls.

These projects are both being delivered by the Little Fish Theatre
Company.
