Dear Home Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to ask for an internal review of the Home Office's handling of my FOI request 'Border Force posted abroad'.

I am dissatisfied with the conclusion to withhold all the information and request an internal review.

For transparency and accountability, I believe the public has a right to know where BF is operating abroad. This helps us understand what measures BF is taking to manage migration, customs and security abroad. I am not asking for the number of personnel in each location, just the locations where BF operates overseas.

This information is publicly available for RALON and I do not see why it should be different in this case. Additionally, the argument that this information may be used by organised crime is too broad and (I think) inappropriately applied here. Theoretically, this argument could be used to prevent disclosure of nearly any enforcement matter. For example, a similar argument could be made to withhold where and how many police officers operate inside the UK, but clearly this would be absurd and the public has a right to know this information. I believe the same is true for BF operations and I fail to see why it should be granted such an exception.

At the very least, the overall number of overseas BF operations should be disclosed as well as the countries they are located in. I can understand the rational for excluding the cities.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/b...

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,
N Ostrand
