Boer War soldier records

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, National Archives of Scotland should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear National Archives of Scotland,

I have been told that records covering humble ordinary soldiers who fought in the Boer War do not exist any longer My grandfather was one such - not a decorated hero not an officer and certainly not dead If my informant is correct it is not worth my sending you his number etc. which I would take off his War medals.

Yours faithfully,
Mary Strick

Dear National Archives of Scotland,

I am completely confused - I requested details at the end of October re my grandfather, James Bernard, who served in the Boer War. I gave his number as recorded on the side of his War medals. The correspondence since doesn't seem to have yielded me the information I am looking for, leading me to think dark thoughts about ordinary foot soldiers not being seen as important. He should have been an officer. Or killed. It seems that then the info is available. Help!
Mary Strick.

P.S. I would be quite willing to start at the beginning again if you prefer. I was unwell and in hospital twice last year so didn't keep on top of things, I guess.
