BME Doctors
Dear General Medical Council,
I would like to get the figures for the number of doctors of Indian, Pakistani,
Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan origin, who were not born in the UK, working in the NHS
in each of the past two calendar years please and what percentage that they represent of the
total number of doctors. Also the breakdown of which region of the UK that doctors of
Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan origin work in.
Yours faithfully,
Nad Badshah

Dear Mr Badshah,
Your information access request
Thank you for your email of 19 January 2017 asking for information about
doctors of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan origin, who were
not born in the UK, working in the NHS. I’ve considered your request under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
I am unable to respond to your queries because the GMC do not keep a
record of where each and every doctor works. They also do not have to tell
us about their ethnicity, which means that we do not have a complete
figure in this regard.
Who to contact
If you have any questions about this, or need anything further, please
contact me on the details below.
Yours sincerely
