Blocking correspondence from data subjects to ICO casework team

Neil Brown made this Freedom of Information request to Information Commissioner's Office

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Information Commissioner's Office,

Please could you supply information that you hold relating to the blocking by the ICO of communications to the ICO casework team from data subjects (for example, by use of a custom mail flow rule), including:

- Policies, processes, internal guidance, training, work instructions / manuals

- Approval flow / matrix, and oversight process

- Data protection impact assessment

- The number of instances in which the ICO has blocked communications to the ICO casework team from data subjects using mail flow rules (e.g. a count of the number of mail flow rules used for this purpose)

If you've got any questions, please do just let me know.

Yours faithfully,

Neil Brown

ICO Casework, Information Commissioner's Office

8 March 2022

Our reference: IC-159356-V7J7

Dear N Brown,

Thank you for your recent request for information. We received your
request on 8 March 2022. Your request will be allocated to an Information
Access Officer who will contact you under the reference number above in
due course.
Under statutory timeframes our response to your freedom of information
request is due by 8 April 2022. Like many other organisations our work has
been disrupted by the pandemic. We continue to experience high demand for
our services while operating at reduced capacity. We are working as hard
as we can to respond to all of the requests we receive within the
statutory time period, but unfortunately it is not always possible for us
to do so.
If you have any queries about this information request you may email us,
quoting our reference number in the subject line. Please note that
Information Access Officers are only able to address information requests
to ICO; they are unable to assist with complaints to ICO, or to provide
general advice about the legislation we oversee, as this work is done by
other ICO departments.
Our privacy notice explains what we do with the personal data you provide
to us when you make an information request:

ICO Casework, Information Commissioner's Office

13 May 2022

Case Reference: IC-159356-V7J7

Dear Neil Brown

I write further to your request for an internal review, made on 5 May
2022. I am a Senior Information Access Officer in the Information Access
Team and I can confirm that I have had no prior involvement in the
handling of this request.

You requested a review on the basis that you had not yet received a
response to your request and we had therefore failed to provide a response
within the 20 working days set out in the Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA).

I note that you have now received a response to your request. However,
this was not provided within the statutory timeframe. Clearly this was in
breach of section 10 of the FOIA. I therefore uphold your complaint, and
apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Complaint procedure
If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of this review you can make a
formal complaint with the ICO in its capacity as the regulator of the
FOIA. Please follow the link below to submit your complaint:

Yours sincerely,
