RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION Our Ref: 006136/20

With reference to your e-mail received 09/11/2020 requesting information as reproduced below:

I would be grateful if you could please provide me with the following information, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

In your area...

1. How many arrests were made at BLM protests for all alleged crimes between 1st January 2020 and 1st November 2020?
2. Of these arrests, how many were made under the Coronavirus Act 2020 legislation?
3. Of those arrested, how many were first-time offenders?
4. How many charges have been brought against those arrested at BLM protests for all alleged crimes between 1st January 2020 and 1st November 2020?
5. Of these charges, how many were made under the Coronavirus Act 2020?
6. Of those charged, how many were first-time offenders?
7. How many police officers were injured as a result of BLM protests?
8. How many protesters were injured as a result of BLM protests?
For all of the above questions, please break these figures down by age, race, gender, alleged crime and month.

I can confirm that Northamptonshire Police holds the information requested as follows:

Q1 - Zero
Q2 - N/A
Q3 - N/A
Q4 - N/A
Q5 - N/A
Q6 - N/A
Q7 - Zero
Q8 - Zero

Please Note - Searches were conducted using the keywords 'BLM', 'Protest', 'Black Lives' and 'Op'. As with any keyword search, the search will only return exact matches. This does not account for differences in terminology and/or spelling used.

The numerical data presented in this response is an un-audited snapshot of un-published data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.

Please note that this should be interpreted with caution. Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete. However, it is important to note that the data has been extracted from a number of data sources used by forces for police purposes. The detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting the data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations and this should be taken into account when the data is used.

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.

If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.

I trust you find this information to be satisfactory but if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Northamptonshire Police provides a review and appeals procedure within the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. If you decide to make an appeal and, having followed the full process you are still dissatisfied, you will then have the right to direct your comments to the Information Commissioner who will give due consideration to the matter. See Appendix 'a' attached.

Regards

Dale
