Blank Free School Application Forms 2010 onwards

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Education (and most probably Mr. Longhill),

Seeing as I was not successful in getting copies of the completed application forms for Free Schools, I wonder if I could have:
(a) a copy of all the blank application form templates used so far - i.e. for 2011 openers through until the one currently on the DfE website
(b) a copy of the criteria used for judging in all cohorts of submission through until the one currently on the website

Apologies if this information is already available on the DfE website (as I assume they must have been there at some point in the past) however I can only find the current application template at present. If there is an archive I can gain them from instead I will very happily do if you point me in its html-ed direction.

Yours faithfully,

Laura McInerney

You requested:

     website; and

2.    (b) a copy of the criteria used for judging in all cohorts of
submission through until the one currently on the website.

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

As the documents that you requested are no longer available on the Free Schools website, I
have enclosed copies of all relevant documents for each of the three application rounds
before the current round. I have included documents for each type of school: Alternative
Provision Free Schools, Special Free Schools, Mainstream Free Schools, Studio Schools and
University Technical Colleges (UTCs).

Please note that:

Wave one (for schools opening in September 2011)

·         Mainstream Free Schools - the Department did not publish a ‘How to Apply Guide’
containing assessment criteria but we did publish a proposal form.

·          AP and Special Free Schools – the Department did not invite proposals for AP and
Special Free Schools in wave one.

·         UTCs - the Department did not publish an application form or and ‘How to Apply
Guide’, we asked proposers for expressions of interest.

·         Studio Schools - the Department did not publish an application form or and ‘How to
Apply Guide’, we asked proposers for expressions of interest.

Wave two (for schools opening in September 2012)

·         Mainstream, AP and Special Free Schools – for each of these types of school the
Department published an application form and a ‘How to Apply Guide’, contained within a
single document.

·         UTCs – the Department published a ‘How to Apply Guide’ containing assessment
criteria but it did not publish an application form.

·         Studio Schools – the Department published a ‘How to Apply Guide’ containing
assessment criteria but did not publish an application form.

Wave three (for schools opening in September 2013)

·         Mainstream, AP and Special Free Schools - for each of these types the Department
published both a ‘How to Apply Guide’ containing assessment criteria and an application
form.

·         UTCs - the Department published both a ‘How to Apply Guide’ containing assessment
criteria as well as a separate application form.

·         Studio Schools – the Department published a ‘How to Apply Guide’ containing
assessment criteria as well as a separate application form.

Wave four (for schools opening in September 2014)

·         As you note in your letter, all information for the current assessment round is
available on the DfE website.

Please note also that applications for 16-19 schools used the guidance and application forms
for Mainstream Free Schools.
