I acknowledge receipt of your Freedom of Information request asking for
the percentage of our current domestic students who attended an
independent school before enrolment at the University (a copy of your full
request is attached below).

 

The request will be handled under the terms of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 within 20 working days.  This means that, taking into account the
bank holiday in Scotland on 30 November, you can expect to receive a
response from us by 5 December 2016.

I write in response to your recent Freedom of Information request.

 

We have calculated that 0.9% of our current UK student population attended
an independent school immediately prior to enrolment at the University. 
This figure is based on the statutory data field included in the HESA
return which records the last provider attended by the student.  Please
note, however, that we cannot give an absolute answer to your question.
This is because we formally record the last provider attended by the
student, not the last school attended.  Where the last provider can be
identified as an independent school, we have included that student in our
calculation.
