Dear C D Johnson,

I refer to your recent request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. I can confirm that the Council does hold this
information, as detailed below.

Number of bin lorry fires and total cost of damage (broken down by the
cost to the council and council's insurer) in 2021 Number of bin lorry
fires and total cost of damage (broken down by the cost to the council and
council's insurer) in 2022 Number of bin lorry fires from 1 January 2023
to 31 May 2023 and total cost of damage (broken down by cost to the
council and council's insurer).

2022 - 2

One fire resulted in an ejected load, with no damage to the bin lorry. The
cost of dealing with this matter as clean-up was estimated to be £500
including lost time/down-time and additional resources.

The second of these was not a refuse related fire, the fire was due to an
electrical issue on a newly supplied vehicle. The vehicle was repaired
under warranty and there was no cost to the Council.

1 January 2023 to 31 May 2023 - 1

No damage as the load was ejected. The cost of dealing with this matter as
clean-up was estimated to be £500 including lost time/down-time and
additional resources.

This information has been provided in response to a Freedom of Information
request and this must be acknowledged in any subsequent use of the
information. In addition, the authority must be notified of any proposed
re-use of this information for commercial or other purposes.
