the information you require.

To enable us to assist with your request, please provide a more detailed

Dear Nichols Melissa (ST),

Thank you for your response.

1) I would be grateful if I had the average daily bikes hires from each docking station in the
City of London for a common weekday ( Monday to Friday) and for weekend (Saturday and Sunday). In addition an hourly breakdown would be really useful.

2) The daily flow of bikes in the City of London is refered to all bikes. And on this occasion an hourly breakdown would be really useful.

If hourly analysis is not available every other type of breakdown during the day is fine.

Let me know if you need further cliarification for this request.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Angeliki Gkogka

Dear Nichols Melissa (ST),

Thank you for your mail. I would like to have data for all the cycles. Distribution to hire bikes would be also useful if possible.

Dear Ms Gkogka,

TfL Ref: FOI-0198-1415

Thank you for your email received by us on 15 May 2014 asking for
information about cycle hire and cycling in London.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm we do hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

1) I would be grateful if I had the average daily bikes hires from each
docking station in the City of London for a common weekday ( Monday to
Friday) and for weekend (Saturday and Sunday). In addition an hourly
breakdown would be really useful.

Please find the attached the information you requested in the spreadsheet
with the pivot table.

Tab 1: illustrates the average number of hires per hour across all 24
hours

Tab 2: breaks down an average of hires by individual hour by week day or
weekend

Tab 3: is general hires by hour volume

Please note this data is for the last 3 months due to the volume of data
(43000 rows). If we included anymore we wouldn't be able to include the
pivot table for the filter, which would make it very difficult to
interpret.

2) The daily flow of bikes in the City of London is referred to all bikes.
And on this occasion an hourly breakdown would be really useful.

In 2012/2013 Transport for London(TfL) undertook an ad-hoc ‘cycling
census’ which covered a number of points in and around the City of
London.  An interactive map of the data can be found  [1]here. I have also
attached the raw data.

A few key points to note about the ‘cycling census’ raw data:

1.    The data collected at each site simply represents vehicle flows
through that place at that time – it is NOT a record of trips/journey
stages or unique vehicles.  A single         cyclist on a single trip may
therefore have passed through and been recorded at multiple sites.  For
example, a cyclist travelling from St Pancras to Southwark along the
Farringdon Road corridor could potentially have been counted at up to 8
sites.

2.    The motorised mode counts are for vehicles, not people.  No
adjustment has been made for vehicle occupancy.

3.    The ‘census’ combines two datasets, an ad-hoc count in spring 2013
and a regular wave of cordon / screenline counts in autumn 2012.

4.    These counts are for all bike types – no breakdown was made of cycle
hire vs personal bikes.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
