Bicycle-vehicle collisions in Borough of Southwark

The request was successful.

Dear Transport for London,

I would like to know the following information:

1. How many bicycle-vehicle collisions have there been in the London Borough of Southwark
in the last 5 years?

If possible I would like the information broken down by year and by individual wards in the borough.

2. Are there currently any plans in motion to make the London Borough of Southwark safer for cyclists?

Yours faithfully,

Hannah Ewens

Please see below for more information on what we are doing to improve
cycle safety in and around the London Borough of Southwark.

·         The Mayor’s Vision for Cycling in London was published earlier
this year – the Vision sets out plans to invest over £900 million in
cycling in London up to 2020;

·         A number of the proposed schemes included in the Vision will
have a positive impact for cycling and cycle safety in Southwark by
providing new, higher quality routes for cyclists including an extensive
network of Quietways, with an especially dense network of routes in the
parts of the borough that make up central London;

·         We will also be delivering improved Cycle Superhighways, some of
which will pass through Southwark, and continuing with our Better
Junctions programme to improve cycle facilities at junctions on Cycle
Superhighways and the Transport for London Road Network;

·         We continue to fund adult and child cycle training in Southwark
through Local Implementation Plan funding;

·         In 2010 we published the Cycle Safety Action Plan which outlined
52 actions to improve cycle safety in London. Much of this Plan has now
been delivered and we are currently working on a new Cycle Safety Action
Plan 2, which will build on the success of the original plan and include
new action areas for improving safety;

·         We continue to work with local cycling groups, the freight
industry, the Metropolitan Police Service and other stakeholders to
improve cycle safety through the Cycle Safety Working Group;

The Mayor’s Vision for Cycling and the current Cycle Safety Action Plan
are available on our website and the new Cycle Safety Action Plan will be
available on line following publication in 2014:

I recommend that you also contact the London Borough of Southwark as they
may have more details about their specific plans.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
