Bermuda Prosecution in Wales

Rhys Evans made this Freedom of Information request to Crown Prosecution Service

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for Rhys Evans to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Crown Prosecution Service,

I ask to have explained, to be provided with all information about, the prosecution of a local resident for offences committed in Bermuda. I wish to understand:

 the decision to prosecute in Wales, not Bermuda;
 the cost of the proceedings in terms of resources and costs;
 how much the Bermuda police contributed to the cost;
 who is pursuing recovery of the funds taken; and
 whether we will have funds reinstated.

Yours faithfully,

Rhys Evans

Freedom of Information Unit, Crown Prosecution Service

Dear Mr Evans

Cases are dealt with by the CPS on an Area basis and are logged under defendants’ names. Therefore, in order for us to identify the case to which you refer, I would be grateful if you could provide as many of the following details as possible:

• Name of the defendant
• The nature of the offence(s);
• The date(s) of the offence(s);
• The name of the Magistrates’ Court/Crown Court dealing with the case and the last date the case was heard at Court.’

If no clarification is received within 1 month of the date of this email, we will consider the request closed

Yours sincerely

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-43084...

An accountant who stole £1.7m from the Bermuda government and spent it on property in the UK has been jailed for seven years.
Jeffrey Bevan, 50, of Cwmbran, lived a "double life" and "manipulated" a government payment system he was employed to set up. Cardiff Crown Court heard he deposited the cash into accounts in the UK.
He previously admitted transferring criminal property and converting criminal property.

Yours sincerely,

Rhys Evans
