Jeremy Wallis made this Freedom of Information request to Cardiff City Transport Services Limited

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Cardiff City Transport Services Limited,

Can you please provide me with a full list of all bus routes that your bendy buses are cleared to operate on. I know they are mainly just used on the 6/17/18 but i believe i have very occasionally seen them on the 57/58 and some School routes and some University routes in the past. So i am interested in a list of all routes that they are allowed to operate on if necessary (not just the routes that they normally are allocated on). Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Jeremy Wallis

Dear Mr Wallis,

Thank you for your request for information regarding the use of
articulated vehicles. The articulated buses can operate on any bus route
that they can physically operate on, there is no stipulation on which
routes they can or cannot operate on.

In a similar way that double decked buses can operate on any route apart
from those with low bridges or low trees, then the articulated buses can
operate on any route that the road layout permits. Thus as you say apart
from Routes 6, 17, 18 they operate on park and ride for events and
University Open Days and other routes that we think the extra capacity is
required.

All the drivers of the articulated buses have been separately trained
in-house to drive the buses, but do not need any additional category on
their driver licence to drive an articulated bus.

I trust this has answered your query.  However, if you are dissatisfied
with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an
internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two
months of the date of receipt of the response to your original letter and
should be addressed to David James, Company Secretary, Cardiff Bus, Sloper
Road, Cardiff, CF11 8TB.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF.

Yours sincerely
