FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST – FOI 2210051076
Dear Susan Russell,
Your request for information, with reference number FOI 2210051076 has now
been considered and the information requested is given below.
Request and Response
Please provide statistics for the number of complaints made to the council
of begging in Peterborough City Centre for the past 3 years ending in
August 2022
We do not have a specific begging category which we use to record
complaints of this nature on our case management system, therefore they
are recorded under a general category which would require a manual check
of all records which would exceed the time limit. *See below
However, following a check of our [email address]
mailbox, we can advise that we received the following number of
reports/complaints of begging during the following requested time
periods:
1/1/2020 to 31/12/2020 - 8 reports
1/1/2021 to 31/12/2021 - 14 reports
1/1/2022 to 31/08/2022 - 5 reports
Begging is an issue that we are very aware of and the local authority
works in partnership with a number of agencies within the Safer Off The
Streets Partnership to support those in need into accommodation, access
benefits and other support as required.
*Providing the information you have requested would require an officer to
manually inspect each record to determine if begging was the issue. Due
to the number of records, we estimate that to do this would take in excess
of 18 hours of officer time.
Therefore, the cost of complying with this part of your request would
exceed the appropriate limit, which has been specified in regulations and
for local Government is set at £450. This represents the estimated cost of
one person working more than 18 hours in determining whether the authority
holds the information, and locating, retrieving and extracting the
information. Under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act the
Authority is not obliged to comply with your request and we will not be
processing your request further.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 this email message
acts as a Refusal Notice where exemptions have been applied.
