The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
further to the reply 25 March 2019, is Council aware of the health risks associated with glyphosate?
Weedkiller cancer ruling: What do we know about glyphosate?

If so, does Council rely upon independent research or upon information provided by the manufacturer?

InfoMgr, FinDMT, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear Mr Hutchinson

Thank you for your email of 14 May 2019 seeking an internal review of the Council's failure to respond to your information request.

Please accept our sincere apologies in this regard - a response was prepared to your enquiry but it would appear that due to human error, the enquiry was closed before the response was sent. We can advise as follows:

Q - is Council aware of the health risks associated with glyphosate?
A - Yes we are aware of the court case in America that was referred to in the link to the BBC article in your FOI https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-cana....

Q - If so, does Council rely upon independent research or upon information provided by the manufacturer?
A - Wirral Council relies on the Health and Safety Executive for guidance on which chemicals are approved for use in the UK. The HSE have considered matters relating to glyphosate, it is approved for use with directions for its application, which are followed.

We trust this answers your original enquiry and again, we apologise for the oversight in providing you with that response. Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

If you remain unhappy with the Council's handling of your enquiry, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office who can be contacted at https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/

Yours sincerely
