BDS Dentistry - Missed grades

The request was partially successful.

Dear Newcastle University,

I am writing to you to request information about your admissions process post results day, regarding students who have not fulfilled the typical offer of AAA.
I am requesting information regarding the years 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18.

My questions are as follows:
A) Of those A-level students that held offers, how many did not achieve the required grades?
B) How many of those students were accepted onto the course?
C) What factors were taken into consideration when deciding whether they would be given a place?
D) What grades had these students achieved, and in what subjects?

I’d like to thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Shehr Bano

If there are any places available when the A Level results the University may take a student who has narrowly missed the entry grade threshold, who has been through the whole process and has selected the University as their first choice. Every year is completely different and the University doesn't take the same amount of 'near miss students' every year.

Sometimes the University is not able to take all of the near miss students so we then have to look at how many grades they have missed by, their interview score and UCAT scores. The University then takes the top students to fill the places.

I hope that this is of use. If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request you can ask for an internal review. Details of how to do this can be found at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/foi/access/complain...

If you are not happy with the outcome of the internal review, you then have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner's Office for a decision. Details of how to do this can be found at: http://ico.org.uk/concerns
