BDS dentistry admissions statistics 2021
Dear University of Dundee,
I am writing to ask the number of applicants, interviews, and offers given for the past 3 admissions cycles - ie this year 2021 entry, 2020 and 2019. I would also like to know the average UCAT score of applicants selected for interview and the lowest UCAT that you invited for interview. I would also like to understand how the selection process is done- is there a points system for GCSEs and how are they used, is there a specific weighting for each component ie UCAT, GCSE etc and if so, what are the weighting’s? How is the personal statement used for interview selection?
Yours faithfully,
Mohamemd Farhaan
Thank you for your email. If your message contains a request for
information the University will respond no later than 20 working days from
its receipt (or one month from receipt in the case of requests for your
own personal information).
Kind regards,

Dear Mohamemd Farhaan
Thank you for your request. The information that you require is below.
Please note that the latest figures we have provided are for 20/21, which
I assume that you meant. We cannot provide figures for entry in 2021 as we
haven't completed that process yet.
BDS Dentistry (A200)
Interviews
Entry Year Applications No. of Average Lowest Offers
interviews UCAT UCAT
2018/9 429 276 2573* 2000* 129
2019/0 499 305 2525 2040 143
2020/1 519 303 2529 2030 138
2018/9 UCAT data excludes deferred applicants from 2017 as only three
elements of the UCAT were tested, rather than four, which would result in
misleading average/lowest scores if included.
Please note that not all of our students have GCSEs as qualifications
(GCSEs are not taken in Scotland). However, academic qualifications
(GCSEs, Highers, A-levels, IB etc both certified and predicted grades) are
scored. For school leavers this score counts for 60% of the initial
selection process. For graduate applicants it counts for 40%. The UCAT
counts for the other 40/60%. The combined scores are then ranked and
the top-ranking applicants are invited to interview. The personal
statement is not used for selection for interview but is discussed at the
interview.
I hope that this helps,
Kind regards
Caroline Brown

Dear FreedomOfInformation,
Thank you for the information. I would just like to confirm for the average ucat and lowest ucat scores you have given, are these the average ucat invited to interview and lowest ucat invited to interview? If not could you please provide me with that information.
Yours sincerely,
Mohamemd Farhaan

Dear FreedomOfInformation,
I think you have misspelt - can you confirm the numbers given are the average UCAT for those invited to INTERVIEW and not applicants, and the lowest UCAT for interview, and not applicants?
Yours sincerely,
Mohamemd Farhaan
Dear Mohamemd Farhaan
I have double checked and can confirm again that the UCAT numbers relate
to those invited to interview - the applicants mentioned are applicants
who have been invited to interview, and the UCAT scores are those for
applicants who have been invited to interview.
Kind regards
Caroline
