BBC Woman’s Hour

We're waiting for Graham Fransham to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

The BBC has for decades broadcast Woman’s Hour each morning in a prime time time slot.

There is also another hour devoted to women with Saturday’s Weekend Woman's Hour plus the Late Night Woman’s Hour.

Why is an equal amount of daily BBC airtime not given to men who also feature all the health, social and other matters that the programme focuses on?

In short why towards the end of the second decade of the 21st century is it necessary to have a gender specific magazine programme aimed at women?

Are there any plans to for Radio 4 redress the balance?

Yours faithfully,

Graham Fransham

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of British Broadcasting Corporation's handling of my FOI request 'BBC Woman’s Hour'.

The programme schedule and times of Womans Hour on Radio 4 are publicly available.

I am simply asking why the BBC discriminates againt men in not proving similar programming.

In short why is there not an equal amount of time devoted to a ‘Mens Hour’ in a similar time slot.

This question falls outside the reasons for refusal give below as such a programme does not exist.

The information you have requested is excluded from the Act because it is held for the purposes of ‘journalism, art or literature.’ The BBC is therefore not obliged to provide this information to you and will not be doing so on this occasion. Part VI of Schedule 1 to FOIA provides that information held by the BBC and the other public service broadcasters is only covered by the Act if it is held for ‘purposes other than those of journalism, art or literature”. The BBC is not required to supply information held for the purposes of creating the BBC’s output or information that supports and is closely associated with these creative activities.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/b...

Yours faithfully,

Graham Fransham
