bastable ave no right turn PCNs BZ95965996/BZ95968349

The request was partially successful.

Dear Barking and Dagenham Borough Council,

I am writing in relation to 2 separate PCN notices that I received For a Prohibited Right Turn into Barnstable Ave. The References are BZ95968349/BZ95965966. I would like to deal with both Notices In this Email.

Firstly, I would like to argue that I believe that the sign is insufficient as when I approach that junction my eyes are on the junction watching the cars and looking to the right so I find the fact there is no Sign on the right side of the road to be misleading bordering on criminal.

I have done my research on this junction and found that for such a small road, thousands of PCNs have been issued which immediately gives me the impression this junction is being used as a cash cow. There is an obvious problem with the junction and the signage. Is it not dishonest of yourselves to no put a duplicate sign on the right hand side of the road?

My main argument is that the writing on the sign is not big enough or prominent enough to be seen whilst driving and paying the correct amount of attention to the multiple junction and on coming vehicles. the sign should be on the pavement or at least duplicated on the right as a courtesy to drivers not as a money making scheme.

I would like to request the number of appeals/complaints have been made pertaining to this junction where the signage has been the issue as I believe you as a council are not addressing the issue.

The left turn as I approach the junction also adds to the distraction and takes your attention away from any potential signage.

The original reason for the "No Right Turn" into Bastable Ave to my understanding was only meant to be a temporary measure until the old bollards were repaired or replaced. It would appear that there was no appetite to fix whatever it was that needed fixing as the money made on this junction overtook that priority.

I would like to remind you that road signs and markings and restrictions are there to be part of road safety. If it is clear to yourselves that people are not seeing the signage then this is in contravention with road safety law as instead of dealing with the issue you are sitting on your hands to your profit.

I am anticipating your response

Yours faithfully,

Colin Browne
