FOI 1988

Dear M. Kerr,

Further to your FOI request, as per below, requesting information on trust involvement in basics.
Please see the following in response:

Please note: We are unable to provide an answer for question 3 at present as we are still awaiting information.

Please note we have received this information from Steve Bell who is a declared and NWAS registered COI as he is a Trustee of the BASICS North West Charity.

1. Are vehicles equipped by your service or do you have to provide your own vehicle? BASICS responders either provide their own vehicle or use a vehicle provided by the BASICS North West affiliated BASICS scheme. NWAS does not supply vehicles to BASICS responders.

2. Do you provide green lights for the responders?
As above, NWAS does not provide vehicles or emergency lights for BASICS responders.

3. How many times on average does a responder get called per year?
Awaiting response from informatics – will forward this information on when it is available.

4. What equipment they are given?
Equipment is provided by the affiliated BASICS North West schemes to their individual responders. Through a memorandum of intent (MOI) between NWAS and BASICS North West, NWAS provides consumable medical equipment to individual responders.

5. How they are called and are they given a handheld radio?
BASICS responders are activated by the NWAS EOCs using NWAS provided digital pagers, airwave radios or their own mobile phones. Each BASICS responder fulfilling the requirements as stipulated in the MOI is provided with a pager and handheld radio.

6. Can they apply for advanced driver training and use blue lights if so?
According to the MOI between NWAS and BASICS Northwest, all BASICS North West responders must hold advanced driver certification including emergency response driving

7. What are the operational hours?
Variable depending on the individual BASICS responder

8. Can they be called anywhere or is there a certain radius they can be called with in?
Variable depending on the individual BASICS responder.

9. What they can attend?
Variable depending on the individual BASICS responder

I hope this sufficiently answers your enquiry.

Many thanks,

Vicky

FOI 1988

Dear M. Kerr,

Further to your FOI request, please see response to your third question:

How many times on average does a responder get called per year?

Please note: The figures are based on the number of resources that have attended scene, meaning that it is possible the number of unique incidents attended to is less, if two BASICS responders went to the same incident, for example.

BASICS Responders - Average Call Outs per Year

Fiscal Year BASICS Vehicle Call Outs
2016/17 739
2017/18 528
2018/19 517
2019/20 376

Average per year 540

I hope this sufficiently answers your enquiry.

Many thanks,

Vicky
