December 2023
Judge Brian Kennedy orders the BBC to disclose large numbers of emails bosses sent in 2020, when the scale of Bashir's deceit emerged.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of British Broadcasting Corporation's handling of my FOI request 'Bashir info'.

You have failed to comply with s1 FOIA by confirming the information is held. It seems as if it is.

What was the date the FtT ordered you disclose the information to the appellant by?

Please send the information in Zip files to this address using Msft compatible software. They should be in the same order as disclosure to the appellant. Thanks.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/b...

Yours faithfully,

Edward Williams

The article:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment...

suggests the info has been released via FOI, although there's no link to the data anywhere I can find. If it's not been released (as I suspect, but CANNOT confirm), the BBC should be held to account for spreading false information. (Maybe why Ofcom are getting greater oversight of BBC News?) Failure to disclose (when and if required) would be an ICO issue, but I would imagine the article being incorrect would be something for Ofcom. Perhaps BBC Verify can investigate?

Dear FOI Enquiries,

may I please now have the requested information or a url link?

Please explain any redactions.

Yours sincerely,

Edward Williams

Dear Mr Williams,

The files you have requested can be found uploaded above. The files are in PDF format and are contained within 12 separate zip files. This is in order to ensure that the files do not exceed the maximum file size upload limit for the ‘What Do They Know’ website.

As requested, the files are presented here in the same order as when they were disclosed to the appellant. However, please be advised that the files uploaded here do not feature optical character recognition (OCR). This is because the file size of PDFs with OCR far exceeds what can be uploaded to the ‘What Do They Know’ platform, and so we have removed this feature in order to reduce the file size. Should you wish to receive the files with OCR please provide us with an alternative email address at which we can contact you directly, and we can arrange for the OCR files to be transferred to you via an alternative platform.

Yours sincerely,
