Dear Michael John

Thank you for your further email.

May I first explain that the FoI Act provides a general right of access to
recorded information held by a public authority.  It does not require a
public authority to answer general questions on a subject as is the case
in this instance.  However, in order to be helpful I have provided an
answer to your question below and links to information on our website
which you may find helpful.

The Bank of England was nationalised in 1946. From 1946 up to the present
day we have been wholly owned by Government through HM Treasury. The
Bank’s capital is held on behalf of HM Treasury by the Treasury Solicitor.
