Dear Mr Iqbal,

Freedom of Information Request RFI-1575-20

Further to your request for information about BAME Taxi and Private Hire,
I can tell you the following:

1. How many taxi / private hire drivers have you licensed in your area?

 1563

2. Please provide the ethnicity of your taxi / private hire drivers.

1442 Asian, 74 African, 33 White British, 10 White European, 2 Black
British, 2 African-Caribbean

3. How many racial incidents have been reported to you during the past
year, by the taxi / private hire drivers?

Our records do not enable us to access this information.  See 4 below.

4. What support do you provide to your taxi / private hire drivers when
they report a racial incident to you?

Any such incident would be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.  The
response made and support given would depend on the nature of the
allegation.  For example if it was suspected that there was a
racially-motivated offence, this matter would be referred to the police.
If the perpetrator was a member of the taxi/private hire trade, this
matter would also be investigated as a licensing enforcement matter.
Action is taken in accordance with our enforcement policy and ranges from
a warning to prosecution in court.  The matter may also be referred to the
Licensing and Safety Committee for consideration of their respective
licence.

5. How many BAME reprehensive do you have as stakeholders to represent
drivers?

2 reps for hackney carriage drivers, 2 reps for private hire; all four
are BAME

6. Please could you supply me with your policy that governs your work on
support for taxi / private hire drivers.

We don’t have a policy for the drivers, but if there were any patterns of
behaviour or incidents of significant concern, we could utilise the
services of the Council’s Equalities and Cohesion team.
