BAME staff risk assessment

The request was successful.

Dear NHS Trust or Clinical Commissioning group,

On behalf of Sky News, I am trying to obtain an answer to the following questions.

I would appreciate a response as detailed as possible please.

"Simon Stevens and Amanda Pritchard wrote to all NHS trusts and CCG Chief Executives on the 29th of April to advise that employers, on a precautionary basis, should conduct risk assessments for staff at greater risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and to act accordingly.
Has your organisation completed risk assessments on all Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff?
AND
What precautions, if any, have you put in place to protect BAME staff once they've been risk assessed?"

Yours faithfully,

Inzamam Rashid

The response

On behalf of Sky News, I am trying to obtain an answer to the following
questions.

I would appreciate a response as detailed as possible please.

"Simon Stevens and Amanda Pritchard wrote to all NHS trusts and CCG Chief
Executives on the 29th of April to advise that employers, on a
precautionary basis, should conduct risk assessments for staff at greater
risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and to act accordingly.

Has your organisation completed risk assessments on all Black Asian and
Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff?

The trust commenced a roll out process for risk assessments on all BAME
and at risk staff groups, on Monday 8^th June 2020. The staff are asked to
complete a self-assessment form which they then discuss with their line
manager. There is a wide range of interventions that the manager will
discuss with staff in order to ensure the risks are reduced/eliminated.
This process will be monitored for completion rates and any trends of
adjustments required.

The trust has set up a BAME Risk Assessment working group to develop the
risk assessment form and process and monitor the progress as well as the
feedback from staff and managers.

What precautions, if any, have you put in place to protect BAME staff once
they've been risk assessed?"

The manager is expected to consider with the staff a range of options
depending on the personal circumstances of the staff, these options range
from continuing to shield, working from home, continuing in current role
with temporary changes, e.g. different working pattern or reduction in
face to face interactions, staff deployed to low risk clinical setting on
non- clinical setting, staff deployed from a clinical role to a
non-patient facing role.
