Balfour Beatty job creation / Cost savings

The request was successful.

Dear North East Lincolnshire Council,
since the creation of the partnership between nelc and Balfour please could you tell me -
how many jobs have been created since the start of the partnership as a direct response to the partnership

how many postions (both agency and employed)have been made redundant since the partnership started

what was the projected cost savings for the partnership in the first two years and what has been the actual cost savings to date

if there has been a shortfall in cost savings can you tell me exactly what this amount is and why this has happened

Yours faithfully,

john hepworth

Dear Mr Hepworth

Thank you for your information request relating to job creation and cost
savings, which I can confirm is held by North East Lincolnshire Council.

Q1. How many jobs have been created since the start of the partnership as
a direct response to the partnership?

A1.     There have been 415 jobs created as a result of the activity of
the Partnership

Q2.     How many postions (both agency and employed)have been made
redundant since the partnership started?

A2.     There have been a total of 31 redundancies since the Partnership
started.

Q3.     What was the projected cost savings for the partnership in the
first two years and what has been the actual cost savings to date?

A3. The Partnership was formed on 1st July 2010 and so has not yet been
established for 2 years. However, the projected savings from 1st

July 2010 to March 2012 were £465,000. The Partnership is currently on
target to achieve these savings.

Dear PPD - FOI,

Thank you for your recent reply
Please could you give me a brake down of where the jobs have been created and can you confirm that these are the same figures that have been issued to councillors from all parties in the local area
Along side of this can you confirm the source of this information - has this been supplied by Balfour ?
Yours sincerely,

John Hepworth

What is the point of making this further request? The new arrangement has saved four hundred thousand (after set up costs?) and created over four hundred new jobs. If the new jobs are paid ten thousand then that would mean four million pounds coming into the area.Too many people critise the council but they do a great job and they are at the centre of the local comunity.

Maisie O'Brien ------------ can i ask what your interest is in this, do you work for balfour/the council or do you work for one of the companys employed by them, like maybe http://www.thinkresearch.org.uk/our-serv... . I only ask because yours seems quite an odd responce from anyone not working for any of the above

PPD - FOI, North East Lincolnshire Council

Dear Mr Hepworth

You have requested further clarification on the information supplied in the Council's original response to your request. Please find the responses as follow:

1. Breakdown of where the jobs have been created?

I firstly must apologise in that the number of additional jobs created since the start of the Partnership as a direct result of the Partnership was incorrect. This was due to adding two results together whereas they were cumulative results. The correct figure is 299 jobs created. The jobs have been created in the following areas:

Construction Jobs = 168
Manufacturing = 33
Services (non manufacturing, business growth and development) = 98

As this information is provided to Balfour Beatty in confidence, we cannot publish the names of the individual businesses involved.

2. I can confirm that these are the same figures that are provided to Councillors by the Partnership. I cannot confirm that this information has been supplied to all Councillors from all parties.

3. I can confirm that the information is provided to Balfour Beatty by individual businesses and that Balfour Beatty then supply that information to the Council. The Council does audit performance information supplied by Balfour Beatty.

If you are unhappy with the response you have received, you have the right to request an internal review by the Council. If following this you are still dissatisfied you may contact the Office of the Information Commissioner. If you wish to request an internal review, please contact me and I will make the necessary arrangements.

Yours sincerely on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council
