Bagpipe Tuition in Argyll Schools

We're waiting for Ronnie Cairns to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Argyll and Bute Council,

I would like to request information on the budget and resource allocated to the teaching of the Bagpipes in Argyll Schools and how this has been allocated over the last five years. I note that in the Cowal area of the council there are only two days teaching provided for all schools, which is down from 5 before lockdown.

The reason I have made this request as I have witnessed the decline in young players taking part in Highland games, workshops and other events in Argyll, which also puts them at risk.

We have to promote our culture and understand the economic benefits that is can bring or it will die.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Yours faithfully,

Ronnie Cairns

Dear foi,

I am still waiting on the answer to my original request. I had asked what the budget was and how this was allocated to the various areas.

The main issue I have is the difference between funding allocation for piping tuition in the Cowal, Bute and Helensburgh areas and areas like Oban and Campbeltown, who seem to have full-time tuition.

Yours sincerely,

Ronnie Cairns
