Awareness raising /specific pieces of work undertaken around PPI knowledge generation since 2009

The request was partially successful.

Dear Patient and Client Council (Northern Ireland),

How has the PCC carried out their own statutory function of 'promoting the involvement of the public' under section 17(1)(b) of the 2009 Health Reform Act. I want to be very specific about the particular statutory duty and I don't want the PCC thinking that I am talking about its statutory function of "representation of the public" which is totally different.

Please provide me with a list of all activities , media campaigns , leaflets (scan), outreach and online information(web link/scan if now offline) engaged in /provided , by PCC staff, as well as approximate dates these were provided to the NI public- pertaining to the generation of awareness raising about PPI in NI since 2009.

Yours faithfully,

Joan Corrigan

Dear Ms Corrigan

Further to your FOI request on the 31 October, 2017, I am now in a
position to respond to the two questions you raised.

1)            How has the PCC carried out their own statutory function of
'promoting the involvement of the public' under section 17(1)(b) of the
2009 Health Reform Act.  I want to be very specific about the particular
statutory duty and I don't want the PCC thinking that I am talking about
its statutory function of "representation of the public" which is totally
different.

The Patient and Client Council undertakes a variety of initiatives to meet
the diverse needs of the public when encouraging them to get involved in
health and social care (HSC) matters.  Due to the numerous events we
attend it would place unreasonable burden on our resources to list all of
these, however, by way of examples, I have listed 4 key areas:

A.            PCC Membership Scheme - please visit our web site
([1]http://www.patientclientcouncil.hscni.ne... get
more information on this innovative resource to get people involved.

B.            Member’s Coffee Connections – In response to PCC members,
who asked for more local engagement, the PCC, in spring 2016, introduced,
‘Coffee Connections’.  These events are still evolving with the 3rd round
of same having just completed in October of this year.  Please see
attached a copy of recent locations visited and samples of press coverage
to encourage members of the public to get involved.

C.            Capacity Building training  - Again in response to our
member’s request the PCC developed a new training package to build their
capacity to get involved in HSC matters.  Please see attached
correspondence pertaining to these recent events.

D.            PCC Business Plan 2017/18 (attached) – To meet our yearly
objectives the PCC will use a range of methodologies to recruit
participants to tell us about their experience on HSC. We will often use
social media or press articles as well as our Member’s Updates newsletter
to ask the public to share their experiences.  Please visit our web site
for further information
-http://www.patientclientcouncil.hscni.ne...
which highlights many articles.

2)            Please provide me with a list of all activities , media
campaigns , leaflets (scan), outreach and online information(web link/scan
if now offline) engaged in /provided , by  PCC staff, as well as
approximate dates these were provided to the NI public- pertaining to the
generation of awareness raising about PPI in NI since 2009.

As referred to above, the PCC Personal and Public Involvement Officers
host regular information stands, attend local group meetings and/or engage
with people in their Trust areas to promote the Patient and Client Council
(PCC), encouraging people to get involved in health and social care
issues.  This may include asking people to complete a questionnaire with
regard to a particular business plan objective and asking the public to
join the PCC M’Ship Scheme.  Please visit our Facebook page which
highlights some of this activity.

I list below previous PCC media campaigns.  Any new campaign now has to be
signed off by the Executive and the PCC have received no authorisation to
pursue any such campaigns since 2012/13.

1.  Awareness raising media campaign carried out in 2010 (Weber Shandwick)
a series of information sheets; posters; Our Plan document; question card;
pull up stands and wrap around stand, press release and media relations

2.  Awareness raising media campaign carried out in 2011 (CBS Outdoor) -
Bus advertising 3.  Awareness raising media campaign carried out in
2012/13 (CBS Outdoor) - Bus advertising

Finally, I attach the 2 leaflets we distribute at all PPI events – M’ship
recruitment leaflet and the PCC complaints card.

Regards
