Average time for Crown Court cases to go from charge to trial

J Roberts made this Freedom of Information request to Department of Justice (Northern Ireland) Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Department of Justice (Northern Ireland),

Paragraph 44.7 of 'Kenova' (interim report) states:

' In 2020-2021, the average time for a case to go from charge to trial in Northern Ireland was 470 days, in England and Wales it was 182 days in a murder case.'

https://www.psni.police.uk/sites/default...

The 470 days figure would seem to be the figure found on page 1 of the document linked to in the footnote:

'In 2020/21 the average time taken for a charge case to be dealt with at Crown Court was 470 days, an increase of 14.6% from 2019/20 (410 days).'

(Case Processing Time for Criminal Cases dealt with at Courts in Northern Ireland 2020-21)
