Average Salary and Allowances from tier 2 ICT used CoS Q4 2010
Dear UK Border Agency,
can I request the average salary and average allowances from tier 2 ICT "used CoS" for Indian Nationals with SOC 2132, job title of "PROGRAMMER" or "Programmer", and a sponsor work address in inner London for the fourth quarter 2010 (October, November, December), please?
What was the size of the sample (i.e. how many used CoS matched the criteria)?
Could I have the same infomration for the same criteria for job titles:
- "SYSTEMS ANALYST" or "Systems Analyst"
- "SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER" or "Senior Systems Engineer"
- "PROJECTS MANAGER" or "Projects Manager" or "PROJECT MANAGER" or "Project Manager" (Note that this is SOC 2131)
Yours faithfully,
Gary Burgess
P.S. for my own reference, Salary Services Limited (which UKBA used for the section J salaries) report that the average paid salaries for London for Q4 2010 for these job titles are:
Programmer £32,754
Systems Analyst £37,283
Senior Software Engineer £50,122 (or Senior Systems Developer £57,742)
Projects Manager £70,500
Interestingly, the Systems Analyst lower quartile and median salaries in London are both £31,800 while for the whole of the UK these are £32,300 and £36,500. This suggests to me that a set of employers that pay very close to the section j salary of £31,200 are having a strong influence on the SSL data for this job title.

Dear Julian Jennings,
The average salary in November for "SOC 2132 - Programmer" appears to be the same as the same as the October average salary for "SOC 2131 - Project Manager". Is this a mistake and has the wrong figure been put in for average salary in November for "SOC 2132 - Programmer"?
Yours sincerely,
Gary Burgess

Dear Sandra Birkinshaw,
In the spreadsheet that was sent (FOI 17437 1333 Reponse.xls), the average salaries for programmers in October, November and December were £27,999.97, £46,254.51 and £27,981.57 respectively.
The average salaries for project managers in October, November and December were £46,254.51, £44,250.38 and £47,642.13 respectively.
November's average salary for programmers was more than £18,000 more than October and December, and is exactly identical to October's average for project managers.
The "Programmer November 2010" average salary of £46,254.51 looks very wrong. Please recheck again.
Yours sincerely,
Gary Burgess
Dear Gary Burgess,
Thank you for your recent email.
I am able to confirm that the overall average salary for programmers for November 2010 should read £26,804.15.
Thank you for pointing out this anomaly.
