Autism spectrum services and supports

The request was successful.

Dear Inverclyde Council,

I would like to request information in relation to adults with an autism spectrum disorder.

Can I ask for a breakdown of all the supports and/or support services available for adults with an autism spectrum disorder with and without a learning disability within the geographical area of your local authority? For example, day services, social support services, drop-in services, access to services, diagnostic and post-diagnostic services etc.

Yours faithfully,

Deborah McKenna

Dear Ms McKenna,

I write in relation to your Freedom of Information request to Inverclyde
Council dated 16^th April 2018 and note below our response.

Can I ask for a breakdown of all the supports and/or support services
available for adults with an autism spectrum disorder with and without a
learning disability within the geographical area of your local authority?
For example, day services, social support services, drop-in services,
access to services, diagnostic and post-diagnostic services etc.

Inverclyde HSCP Learning Disability Day opportunities is open to
Inverclyde adults with LD and Autism, these range from a building base Day
Opportunities  (Fitzgerald and McPherson centres) to support in the
community (Outreach) including support into college for people to attend.
Opportunities are accessed following a person centred assessment and
assessment of community care eligibility criteria.

Supported employment opportunities are also accessed by people with LD and
Autism and for adults with Autism and no diagnosis of LD. These
opportunities are provided by 3 external contracted providers Unity
Enterprise; Enable and Parklea Branching Out.

There are a number of local voluntary organisations that provide social
groups out in the community for people including those with Autism e.g
Enable and Sunshine clubs and Greenock United Football Club.

Support groups for people with Autism are also available: REACH for Autism
and Inverclyde Autism Support Group.

The Advisory Group (TAG) are a voluntary organisation who promote SDS and
outcome focussed support planning for people including those with Autism.
Local Advocacy groups  (Circles and Your Voice ) and volunteering
opportunities (The Trust) are also available to be accessed by people with
Autism.

The Inverclyde HSCP Community Learning and Disabilities Team does provide
Autism diagnosis service, but principally to individuals with a learning
disability. If the adult states they do not have a LD, we would refer
their GP to look elsewhere for diagnosis. We have also provided short-term
post-diagnosis support to individuals and carers, specifically around
understanding their diagnosis and its implications.

In terms of other services we commission, we provide and commission a
range of services for people on the autism spectrum, mainly for adults who
also have LD, but there are some who would be borderline, but because
their ASD affects many areas of their daily functioning, we still provide
some services from our Inverclyde LD budgets. We do not commission
autism-specific services.

Therefore, the services provided are within the range mentioned, which
includes support at home, social support, day services, etc.  We do not
have a drop-in service.

I attach a copy of our review policy in case you are dissatisfied with any
aspect of this response.

Many thanks
