Autism diagnostic timescales
Dear Grampian Health Board,
Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act
I write to request the following information held by NHS Grampian Health Board under the terms set in the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act (FoISA).
Without a diagnosis many children will struggle at school, develop mental health problems like anxiety or depression - and in some cases end up in crisis or even in hospital.
Are children’s referrals prioritised and if so what is the criteria?
My request encompasses services for both Children and Adults, so, for your convenience, I have split this into two parts.
Children and Adolescents:
* The service level agreement or target used by the Scottish Centre for Autism for diagnostic appointments (i.e. the time between referral from a clinician to an appointment).
* The average waiting time for a diagnostic appointment for Autistic Spectrum Conditions (i.e. Autism, Aspergers) in the last two years.
In the last 2 years
* The number of cases referred for a diagnoses.
.* Average waiting time from the first assessment / appointment to a clinical diagnosis.
* The number of children currently waiting for first appointment.
Adults:
* The service level agreement or target used by the Adult Autism Team for diagnostic appointments (i.e. the time between referral from a clinician to an appointment).
* The average waiting time for a diagnostic appointment for Autistic Spectrum Conditions (i.e. Autism, Aspergers) in the last two years.
In the last two years.
* The number of cases handled by the service in the last two years.
* The current waiting time for a diagnostic appointment and approximate number of cases currently awaiting assessment.
Yours faithfully,
Edward fowler
