Dear Department of Health,

The Westminster commission on autism called on Jemery Hunt to remind hospitals/clinical commissioning groups of their obligations to ensure staff have the skills to support autistic people.

• Did Mr Hunt's good office contact the Royal Liverpool/Broardgreen /Dental Hospital re the Westminister Commission recommendations?
• What was the response from the said hospitals?
• Can you tell me if The Department of Health recommend staff receive training to support Autistic Adults?
. Details of training (if any) supported by documentation/emails.

Cordially

Audrey O’Keefe

Dear Ms O'Keefe,

Thank you for your correspondence of 31 December about autism and staff
training at the Special Care Dentistry Department at Liverpool University
Dental Hospital.  I have been asked to reply.

The Freedom of Information Act only applies to recorded information such
as paper or electronic archive material.  As your correspondence asked for
general information, rather than requesting recorded information or
documentation, it did not fall under the provisions of the Act.

You may wish to contact Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University
Hospitals NHS Trust, which is responsible for Liverpool University Dental
Hospital, for information about the delivery of training to its staff.
Contact details can be found at the following link:

Additionally, Health Education England (HEE) is responsible for workforce
planning and the delivery of education and training in the NHS and the
public health system.  HEE’s remit is to ensure that the healthcare
workforce has the right skills, behaviours and training and is available
in the right numbers to support the delivery of healthcare and health
improvement.

You may therefore also wish to contact HEE for information.  You can do so
by email at [2][email address].

As you may be aware, the Government has published statutory guidance for
local authorities and NHS organisations to support implementation of the
autism strategy.  The guidance shows how local authorities and NHS
organisations should carry out their responsibilities under the Autism Act
2009 to develop services that support and meet the needs of people with
autism, and their families and carers. It also explains what support they
can expect to receive from local authorities and NHS organisations.  More
information can be found on the Government website, at the following link:

I am sorry I cannot be more directly helpful.
