Audit Committee Annual/External Reviews
Dear Vale of White Horse District Council,
CIPFA Guidance on Local Authority Audit Committees states that “Recommended practice is for audit committees to review and assess themselves annually or to seek an external review.”
We realise that the committee with audit related responsibilities are not always called ‘Audit Committee’. Please can you confirm what the title of this committee is within your local authority and answer the following questions in relation to that committee.
a) Internal Annual Review of Audit Committee
For each of the last five financial years please provide me with a copy of the audit committee’s annual review of its work. Please state the date the review was published and how it was made public at the time.
b) External Review of Audit Committee
Please confirm the most recent date that an external review of the audit committee was sought, who undertook that review, when and where it was published and provide a copy of the review.

Dear Megan Waugh,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information requests, which were received by
both South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District
Council, logged under FOI 23/986 South and FOI 23/834 Vale and passed to
me to respond accordingly. Please note that the two councils operate as a
shared service hence this joint response.
Under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 2000 Act) you
are entitled to be informed in writing whether the council holds the
information specified in your request and, if that is the case, to have
that information communicated to you unless any of the statutory
exemptions apply. I have considered your request and can confirm we do not
hold the information asked and I do not believe any of the statutory
exemptions apply to your request.
You have requested:

In response to point a), an internal annual review of the Joint Audit and
Governance Committee (JAGC) is currently not performed, therefore we do
not hold information to answer the question. However, this is under
consideration by the JAGC.
In response to point b), an external review of the Joint Audit and
Governance Committee (JAGC) has not been performed, therefore we do not
hold information to answer the question. However, this is under
consideration by the JAGC.
Please treat this as the councils’ formal response under the 2000 Act. If
you are not satisfied with the decision I have made in response to your
request, you may make a request for an internal review by emailing

days from the date we issued our response. If you remain dissatisfied
after following that procedure, you have the right under Section 50 of the
2000 Act to complain to the Information Commissioner if you feel the
