Attendance records for Biosciences
Dear University College London,
Please provide information on students' attendance records in UCL Biosciences.
What is the average rate of attendance among undergraduate students? How many undergraduate students receive warnings for low attendance and are required to sign a learning agreement per year? Information on postgraduate taught students would also be useful.
Data for 2014-15 best, at least for one year, ideally the past three years.
Yours faithfully,
Rebecca Pinnington

Dear Rebecca,
I am writing in response to your request for information received by UCL
on 27 January.
The Division of Biosciences with the UCL Faculty of Life Sciences monitors
student engagement, rather than attendance at every lecture, in accordance
with the Home Office Points Based Immigration System (PBIS) requirements.
Engagement is measured by considering a variety of factors including the
submission of course work, examination performance as well as attendance
at specific events throughout the year. As a consequence UCL does not hold
recorded information which would allow the Division of Biosciences to
calculate the average rate of attendance.
In 2014-15 the Division issued no formal warnings on the basis of
attendance levels alone for the reasons stated above, however, 0.7% of our
taught students (UG and PGT) were required to sign learning agreements,
but none of these agreements were on the basis of purely attendance alone.
