Dear Home Office,

I would like to receive information about how the Home Office has used private hotels or private-rented residential properties in London to accommodate people who have a pending claim to seek asylum in the UK.

Please can you provide the following:

How many hotels were used to provide accommodation for asylum seekers within Greater London between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020? Can you also please provide a breakdown of this data according to how many of these hotels were located in each of London's 32 boroughs and the City of London? For example if there was one hotel used in Southwark, four in Lambeth, two in Lewisham, etc.

How many private-rented residential units were used to provide accommodation for asylum seekers within Greater London between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020? Again, can you please provide a breakdown of this figure according to how many units were used in each borough and the City of London.

How many individuals claiming asylum, including children, were provided accommodation in a hotel or private-rented housing unit, in Greater London and the City of London, between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020?

Can the Home Office provide a cost estimate for how much it spent on:
A) Providing hotel accommodation for asylum seekers in London between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020
B) Providing private-rented accommodation for asylum seekers in London between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020
C) Staff hired to work in those hotels between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020
D) Or, contracts with companies contracted to service the hotels between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020

Can the Home Office also tell me how many people had been waiting for more than six months to receive a determination on their application for asylum in the UK as of each of the following dates in 2020: 1st April, 1st May, 1st June, 1st July, 1st August, 1st September, 1st October.

Yours faithfully,

Owen Sheppard

Dear Home Office,

Thank you for your response, however I am not satisfied that all of my questions have been addressed.

The first part of my question asked: "How many hotels were used to provide accommodation for asylum seekers within Greater London between April 1 2020 and October 1 2020? Can you also please provide a breakdown of this data according to how many of these hotels were located in each of London's 32 boroughs and the City of London? For example if there was one hotel used in Southwark, four in Lambeth, two in Lewisham, etc."

Could the Home Office please provide a response to this part of my question, as the links you provided, to data already published by the Home Office, do not contain information that answers my question.

Yours faithfully,

Owen Sheppard
