Andy Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Newham Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Newham Borough Council,

The newly promoted Mayoral advisor Cllr Patrick Murphy was the Newham Labour Party procedures secretary to the recent Mayoral trigger ballot. When he has been contacted by journalists interested in the allegations made about this process he has told them to contact the Newham Council Assistant Chief Executive, Douglas Trainer for comment.

Mr Trainer is paid by Newham Residents £111,000 per year and is in a politically restricted post.

1. Please confirm that Mr Trainer has contacted or discussed the Labour Party Mayoral trigger ballot (and anything associated with it) with any journalist.

2. If so the names of these journalists; when; where; how and what he said to these journalists and why he has acted as a spokesperson for the Labour Party.

3. I understand that there are tape recordings of these conversations.

4. Please list the social events that Mr Trainer has attended with member of Newham Labour Party including at Labour Party conferences.

Please send copy of all entries of the Newham Council officer hospitality register filled out by Mr Trainer.

Yours faithfully,

Andy Smith

Dear Newham Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Newham Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Assistant Chief Executive acting as Newham Labour spokesperson on Mayoral Trigger?'.

1. I understand that the Assistant Chief Executive spoke to many Journalists, local and national on behalf of the Mayor and the Labour Party - not the 1 or 2 that the attachments refer. It is clear from the attachments declared that the conversation was not at all "factual".
2. This is incorrect. A large number of journalists contacted him. Please respond properly to the question.
3. Accepted - even though I understand they do exist.
4. I do not accept this explanation. The Assistant Chief Executive is politically restricted and has clearly on the inadequate information already disclosed broken that restriction. This is an very important matter.
5. Recieved.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:
Yours faithfully,

Andy Smith
