Assault occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm on a student
Dear The Royal Latin School,
In the Autumn term of 2018 one sixth form student emptied a tube of superglue into the drink of another sixth form student, which when consumed led to the hospitalisation of the victim. Please disclose (noting the need to redact names):
1. The RIDDOR report submitted to the Local Authority/HSE following an incident that led to hospitalisation;
2. All email or other correspondence between any party involved in the incident and the school including staff, parents, and governors;
3. Any police reports or correspondence with the police related to this incident;
4. The sanction(s) handed to the culprit and any documents or electronic information (such as SIMMS) related to the incident
5. Any record of a donation, grant, or any other monies given by the parent(s) of the culprit to the school or the 600 Fund charity before or after the incident.
Yours faithfully,
Glynn Freeman

Dear Mr Freeman
My response to your 5 points (in the order in which you requested) is as
follows:
1. No RIDDOR/HSE report is held
2. The Freedom of Information Act allows access to information, as opposed
to documents. The provision of the documents relating to parents would
release personal data, which would be in breach of the first data
protection principle to release, on the grounds that it would not be fair
to the individual or their family, given the expectation of parents and
students that they can correspond with the school on personal matters
without fear of that correspondence being made public. We are able,
however, to provide you with a summary of the content of the
communications, which is that the details of the incident were
communicated to the family, and updates provided during the
investigation. In turn, the family updated the school as to their child's
progress. Internal correspondence (with redactions) from staff is
attached.
3. Correspondence (again with redactions) with the police is attached
4. The record of the sanction and related documents are contained in the
attached correspondence
5. There is no record of any donation, grant, or any other monies given by
the parent(s) of the culprit to the school or the 600 Fund charity before
or after the incident. In relation to your email of 28th February, there
is also no record of any donation, grant or any other monies given to the
School Fund and/or any other funds or voluntary donations.
Yours sincerely

Dear Karen Bishop,
Thank you for your reply.
I note your comments with regards to section 2, however your response if lawfully incorrect.
Taken from the ICO Website:
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides public access to information held by public authorities.
It does this in two ways:
public authorities are obliged to publish certain information about their activities; and
members of the public are entitled to request information from public authorities.
Recorded information includes printed documents, computer files, letters, emails, photographs, and sound or video recordings.
https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/gui...
The request asks for the information and documentation to be provided in a redacted format that protects the identities of the individuals and is therefore compliant with the principles of the DPA.
Given that it is known that the Headteacher is alleged to have made implicit threats to the victim's family regarding the ongoing safety of their child if they involved the police after voicing their concerns over the lack of appropriate sanctions, the correspondence on the matter is explicitly sought to be released into the public domain.
You would also wish to be aware that the links provided do not work.
