Alan Rundle made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council ('the Council'),

I note that the Council's Environmental Health Officer, Norman Joughin, stated, on 3 August 2016, in a letter, concerning Planning Application APP/16/00823, to Senior Planning (Section 106) Officer - Mr N Williams - that:

"....I have no objection to this application".

Please provide information (including ALL correspondence/emails) of all inquiries and investigations made by the Environmental Health Officer regarding the possibility of ASBESTOS being present in the Ashton Court buildings and, if there is ASBESTOS in the buildings, of ALL measures proposed by the Council's Environmental Health Department to ensure that there is NO disturbance of any ASBESTOS into the local environment if it becomes necessary to remove any ASBESTOS.

Yours faithfully,

Alan Rundle

Dear Mr Rundle

We write further to the above requests for information and confirm that
the Council’s response below is made in respect of both enquiries.

·         “Please provide information (including ALL
correspondence/emails) of all inquiries and investigations made by the
Environmental Health Officer regarding the possibility of ASBESTOS being
present in the Ashton Court buildings and, if there is ASBESTOS in the
buildings, of ALL measures proposed by the Council's Environmental Health
Department to ensure that there is NO disturbance of any ASBESTOS into the
local environment if it becomes necessary to remove any ASBESTOS.”

Wirral Council’s Environmental Health Department has received no
complaints regarding asbestos at Ashton Court or Ashton Drive and there is
no requirement to routinely check all buildings prior to demolition.
Responsibility for ensuring that demolition contractors fulfil health and
safety at work duties for issues such as asbestos would fall to the Health
and Safety Executive.  The Council holds no recorded information in
relation to this request.

·         “Why was the letter from Mr N Williams and Lisa Newman
‘regarding the above application’, NOT in the planning file that I was
shown?

Please provide a copy of the Mr N Williams to Lisa Newman.”

Please find attached the original correspondence letter from Mr N Williams
to Lisa Newman.

Yours sincerely
