Dear Lucie Stephens,

Your request for information which was received on 29 August 2016 has been
considered.

Please find our response below.

Your request:

1. The names of the schools in your borough that contain asbestos.

2. The date and outcome of the last independent audit or inspection of
each of these schools Asbestos Management Plans.

3. The details of any reported incidents of asbestos exposure in these
schools between 2011 and 2016.

4. The number of school employees (existing and retired staff to include
teaching staff, school support staff and caretakers, etc) that have
pursued a claim against you for exposure to asbestos within a Richmond
upon Thames school.

5. The number of these claims that have been settled.

6. The amount of money that has been paid in settlement of these claims
(with and without your authority accepting responsibility).

Our response:

1. Please see the attached spreadsheet

2. See attached spreadsheet. There is an ongoing asbestos management
survey re-inspection programme. Asbestos management plans are then updated
and issued along with re-inspection survey reports. Most asbestos
management plans have been reviewed this year by the council’s internal
health and safety team as part of a planned overall review of asbestos
management in schools.

The “outcome” part is not possible to answer as the reviews are part of an
ongoing process which does not generate an overall outcome, but a specific
outcome on every item of asbestos containing material in each school. The
general outcome of a re-inspection survey is an update to the asbestos
management plan and register for the site.

3. No reported incidents of asbestos exposure in this period.

4-6 Please note not all schools are insure through the London Borough of
Richmond upon Thames.

There were no specific dates provided for these questions therefore we
have limited the search to notifications during the period 2011-2016 which
is the date range stated in Q3.

On this basis, we currently have no records on our system of any school
related formal asbestos claims having been made against the London Borough
of Richmond and therefore there are no recorded claim settlements.

I hope you are satisfied with this response.

If you are dissatisfied please let us know in writing, setting out your
reasons why and send to:
