Dear Lewisham Borough Council,
This is a Freedom of Information request for the following information. Please provide me with;
1. The names of the schools in your borough that contain asbestos.
2. The date and outcome of the last independent audit or inspection of each of these schools Asbestos Management Plans.
3. The details of any reported incidents of asbestos exposure in these schools between 2011 and 2016.
4. The number of school employees (existing and retired staff to include teaching staff, school support staff and caretakers, etc) that have pursued a claim against you for exposure to asbestos within a Lewisham school.
5. The number of these claims that have been settled.
6. The amount of money that has been paid in settlement of these claims (with and without your authority accepting responsibility).

Thank you for your recent request. Your request is being considered and
you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working
days, subject to the application of any exemptions/exceptions. Where
consideration is being given to exemptions/exceptions, the 20 working day

have asbestos or may have asbestos for example, in floor ducts, loft voids
and other areas that may not have been accessible at the time of
inspection:

Regarding Q2 and Q3 above, the Council can confirm that this information
is not held centrally and you are required to contact each school directly
to obtain their records.
4 The number of school employees (existing and retired staff to include
teaching staff, school support staff and caretakers, etc) that have
pursued a claim against you for exposure to asbestos within a Lewisham
school.
No claims have been pursued against the Authority by existing or retired
school employees for period 2011 to 2016 for alleged exposure to Asbestos
within a Lewisham School
5. The number of these claims that have been settled.
This is not applicable in view of the Council’s response to Q4 as outlined
above.
6. The amount of money that has been paid in settlement of these claims
(with and without your authority accepting responsibility).
The Council can confirm that this is nil, as no claims have been made.
