Arrests and charges arising from Balcombe protests
Dear Sussex Police,
Please provide answers to the following questions:
1. How many people were arrested in the policing operation of protests outside Cuadrilla’s oil exploration site at or near Lower Stumble, London Road, Balcombe, West Sussex, between July 25th and September 30th 2013?
2. Of the people arrested, how many were offered and accepted cautions?
3. What was the total number of cautions offered and accepted?
4. Of the people arrested, how many were charged?
5. What was the total number of charges?
6. Of the people who were charged, how many later had their charges changed?
7. What was the total number of charges that changed?
8. Of the people who were charged, how many later had their charges discontinued, either before or after the case reached court?
9. What was the total number of charges that were discontinued, either before or after the cases reached court?

This request will be dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and you will receive a response within the
statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, from the
date of receipt. In some circumstances Sussex Police may be unable to
achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given
a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.
Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to
another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest
possible way.
