Dear Ministry of Defence,

Please could I get a summary of the number of personnel, broken down by Service and Rank, who exceeded the pension contribution annual allowance. I am only looking for the figures of those who have exceeded the allowance purely by the contributions calculated by their Armed Forces Pension and not taking into account any additional contributions or other pensions.

I would like the figures for tax years 14/15, 15/16. 16/17, 17/18, 19/20 and 20/21 (although 20/21 is yet to be completed the figures have been made available for tax purposes and submission).

I will be putting the same question to the Police, Fire Service, NHS, Civil Service and MPs for comparison and understanding the results of any transitional protection.

Should this exceed the cost constraint on FOI requests please reduce the request to 2017 - 2021.

Having found a previous request similar to this I would like to refine my question to ensure that it does not exceed the cost constraint.

I am looking for the detail on those where calculated pension contribution from the AFPS alone, without taking into account the rollover or individual circumstances, exceeded the annual allowance, not for detail on those who had to pay tax on their contributions. It is the numbers, broken down by Service and rank of those who were informed that the calculated contribution exceeded the annual allowance, not the numbers of those who actually did (which would be an HMRC responsibility to answer).
