Please provide me with the following information:

1) Are there targets for the number of children to be taken into care per annum? If so, what are the desired numbers?

2) Are there targets for the number of children that need to be adopted out each year?

3) Are these children in care for long term or are they adopted out very quickly after coming into care?

4) Are Social Workers/Caseworkers paid bonuses for each child they take into care? If so, how much per child or per family of children?

5) What is the age range of children who are adopted out each year?

6) What is the number of children returned to their families after being taken into care? How long do they spend in care?

7) Are Social Workers/Caseworkers paid per visit they make to a family they are investigating?

8) Are they paid an annual salary or is their pay on a per visit scale?

9) Are they paid a lower base salary with bonuses on top?

Dear Ms Jones,

Thank you for your clarified information request of 12 August 2013.
Aberdeen City Council (ACC) has completed the necessary search for the
information requested.

To clarify, I would like to see the figures from 01 August 2011 to present
day.

Please provide me with the following information:

1) Are there targets for the number of children to be taken into care per
annum?  If so, what are the desired numbers?

No.

2) Are there targets for the number of children that need to be adopted
out each year?

No.

3) Are these children in care for long term or are they adopted out very
quickly after coming into care?

The timescales for children being placed for adoption are based on the
individual circumstances of the child. It is also dependent on the
timescales related to the legal process.

4) Are Social Workers/Caseworkers paid bonuses for each child they take
into care?  If so, how much per child or per family of children?

No.

5) What is the age range of children who are adopted out each year?

There is no specific age range.

Plans for adoption are based on the needs of the child. However the older
children are the harder adoption is to achieve. Generally adoption is
pursued for children aged 8 or under although in some cases children over
8 have been placed for adoption.

6) What is the number of children returned to their families after being
taken into care?  How long do they spend in care?

The following data relates to all children who were in a care placement
(not looked after at home or with friends and relatives) and who were
discharged from being looked after to either a parent or friend or
relative on or after 01-08-2011.

Days in a care
placement prior to No of
discharge. Discharges
less than 3 months
(90 days) 30
3 to 6 months (91
to180 days) 9
6 to 12 months (181
to 365 days) 4
More than a year
(over 365 days) 11

Children who have moved from a care placement such as a foster family to
home and are still looked after by the Local Authority are not included in
these figures.

7) Are Social Workers/Caseworkers paid per visit they make to a family
they are investigating?

No.

8) Are they paid an annual salary or is their pay on a per visit scale?

Social Workers are paid an annual salary.

9) Are they paid a lower base salary with bonuses on top?

No.

Please note I am only asking for numbers and not details of specific
children and/or families which means you should be able to provide me with
this information as a matter of public interest.

We hope this helps with your request.

Yours sincerely,

Steven Dongworth
