approved contractors Wirral

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

I am looking to use a private contractor to lower a kerb prior to installing a driveway.

I have completed the necessary paperwork and have received a council estimate for the work.

I understand that you do not recommend contractors but would like to identify those most commonly used for such work in the borough, so I can get quotes for the work and make comparisons..

Yours faithfully,

Carol Grey

The Council has a contracted service with a single contractor to carry out work with regard to lowering kerbs and providing vehicle crossings and can as a consequence of this contract guarantee the quality of the work undertaken.

However the Council is unable to recommend any private contractors because there may be a conflict of interest in that the Council may be seen to be favouring one private contractor over another.

If you wish to engage a private contractor to carry out the work for you, they must have formal accreditation under The New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 to work on the highway. They must also have public liability indemnity insurance to indemnify the Council against any claims arising from their working practices and the quality of their work.

The Council will also charge a fee of £105 for inspecting the work of a private contractor to ensure that it is undertaken to the Councils specific standard and specification. If you require any additional information please contact [email address]

Another Wirral council tax payer ripped of for £105 for an inspection.....what does the £105 equate to, if the whole job, including travel takes an hour thats £60 odd quid an hour......disgraceful
