Appointment of Metropolitan Police Commissioner

Bangladesh made this Freedom of Information request to Metropolitan Police Service (MPS)

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),

In regards to the upcoming appointment of Mike Bush as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police:-

1. As he has a police record of

Theft
Drinking and Driving

How will he be able to clear vetting?

2. Please explain how the residency requirements for Commissioner differ from that for lower ranks, as normally one must be resident in the UK for 3 years prior to appointment.

3. Why are the Metropolitan Police not proactively trying to recruit a racialized candidate from the United States with greater experience of Policing diverse communities than any white British person?

4. Why are India and Jamaica not on the list of countries where a new commissioner can be appointed from?

Yours faithfully,

Bangladesh V. Thackeray
