Sean Brawley made this Freedom of Information request to The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service,
Please provide, broken down by year and by different listing below for the last 5 years, the number of applicants falling under each of the below categories:
-Asylum seekers
-Indefinite leave to remain
-Discretionary leave to remain
-UASC leave to remain
-limited leave to remain
-Humanitarian protection

If any of these categories are currently held within a single larger category within internal coding by UCAS for data storage, I am happy for UCAS own data category to be returned so long as an explanation of which groups it covers is provided.

Kind regards,

Sean Brawley

Dear Mr Brawley,

FOI-2018-02-08-001

Thank you, again, for requesting information from UCAS under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I am pleased to provide you with the number of undergraduate applicants for 2013-2017 cycles, broken down by the following residential categories which are most relevant to your request:

Applicants are required to self-declare their residential category on the application. Descriptions of the residential categories (above) are contained in the help text for applicants, which I have provided below:

Refugee: You have been recognised as a refugee by the British government or you are the spouse, civil partner or child under 18 of such a person at the time of the asylum application.

Humanitarian Protection or similar: You have been granted Exceptional Leave to Enter or Remain, Humanitarian Protection or Discretionary Leave or you are the spouse, civil partner or child under 18 of such a person at the time of the asylum application.

Settled in the UK: You have Indefinite Leave to Enter or Remain in the UK or have the Right of Abode in the UK and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man (or more than one of these) for three years, but not just for full-time education. (However, this does not apply if you are exempt from immigration control, for example, as a diplomat, a member of visiting armed forces or an employee of an international organisation or the family or staff member of such a person).

Thank you for your interest in our data. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Kind regards,
Paul
