must have their course code next to them).

I look forward to hearing from you within the 20 day deadline.

Dear Mr Carter
Thank you for your recent freedom of information request.
I can confirm that the University holds the data you have requested, but
to provide the full dataset will require some significant additional work
for which we would need to charge a fee, as the cost of preparing a full
response will exceed the threshold of £450.
If you do require a full dataset and are prepared to pay a fee, then
please let me know and I will contact you again with further details. If
however you would be satisfied with a partial response at no cost, then
please let me know and we will provide as much information as we are able
within the time constraints.
Alternatively you might want to consider contacting UCAS
([1]http://www.ucas.com/) who may be able to provide you with a full
dataset at no cost.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Yours sincerely
Kevin Wright
Freedom of Information Officer

Kevin Wright, Bath Spa University

Dear Sir

Thank you for your recent freedom of information request.

Because of the complexity of the data requested, particularly including
the date/deadline factors, the split into individual courses and both
offers and responses from applicants, multiple queries would need to be
written to produce the data for this request and then collated into a
usable format.  We estimate this to at least 25 hours (3 days) work by an
experienced analyst, and therefore  a fee would become payable for this
work, probably of the order of £600 plus VAT.  However, if you are
interested only in total numbers of applications, offers and acceptances
in each cycle by course, this would reduce the time requirements and
therefore can be provided without charge.

Before we can commence the data analysis we need clarification of the
following:

1.       You refer to the 'standard deadline for consideration in
accordance with the deadline of the relevant course'.  We do not set
deadlines for applications for any of our programmes of study, and instead
close the courses once they are full (so do not receive applications after
this date).  However, you may be referring to the standard UCAS January
deadline, and therefore need you to clarify if this is what you are
referring to.

2.       If your request requires the data to be split between pre-UCAS
deadline and post-UCAS deadline information, the time spent to provide
this information is estimated to be 30 hours and therefore a charge would
be applicable.  However, we could provide the total numbers of
application, offers and acceptances without this distinction in under 20
hours and therefore no charge would be payable.

3.       Does your request cover all courses that the University has run
since 1994, including postgraduate and PGCE courses as these will be
outside of the UCAS system?

4.       You have requested that course codes are included for each
course.  For UCAS courses, presumably this would be the UCAS course code,
but I’m not clear what code you would require for direct applicants or
non-UCAS courses (we have internal course codings that could be provided).

You should also be aware that much of the information that you have
requested is in the public domain through UCAS, and to the extent that
such information is already available through them, there is an exemption
under the Freedom of Information Act (section 21) which means this data
does not also need to be provided by the University.

I would therefore recommend that you do contact UCAS to see if they are
able to provide the information you have requested, and having done so,
and considered the above, please let me know how you would wish to
proceed.

Kind regards

Kevin Wright

As the requester has not responded to the public authority's correspondence querying whether the responder would like to pay a fee for the information or alternatively accept a smaller dataset for free, and some significant time has passed, I have marked the request as "withdrawn".
