Dear Mr Carter

Further to your information request please be advised that the University
of Ulster introduced a new student record system at the start of the
academic year 2008/09.  The information requested  by you is not held on
the previous student record systems in the manner in which you have
requested it.  The University can provide you with the total no. of
applications received by the University via UCAS and direct entry for the
period 2008/09 to 2011/12 at course level.  Please advise if you wish the
University to provide this information.

With regard to your request for information ‘in accordance with the
standard deadline of the relevant course for entrance in that particular
application cycle’ please note that the deadline for applications for
courses at the University is variable depending on the start dates for
courses.

The University considers that your request for information relating to
offer analysis, clearing, adjustment and deferred applications will
require further work in order to ascertain whether the University can
provide this data.  The University considers that the time taken to
undertake this work would exceed the cost limit set out in the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

Where a request would cost the University less than £450 or would take
less than 2.5 days, (18 hours @ £25 per hour - the appropriate limit laid
down by government) to satisfy, the University is not permitted to
charge.  You may wish to consider this and refine your freedom of
information request accordingly.  If you wish to do so please do not
hesitate to contact me to discuss how you might do that.  A copy of the
University's Fees Policy is available at:

If you are unhappy with how the University have dealt with your Freedom of
Information (FOI) request you may raise the matter under the University's
internal review process for FOI requests.  Please submit written details
of your appeal to Ms Irene Aston, Director of Corporate Planning and
Governance, Room J313, University of Ulster, Coleraine BT52 1SA.  The
University will normally undertake to issue a decision on an appeal within
20 working days of receipt.

If you do not wish to submit an appeal to the University, in regard to
your FOI request, or if you are unhappy with the outcome of an appeal you
may apply to the Office of the Information Commissioner.  Full particulars
of the FOI Act, including the Information Commissioner's address may be

Yours sincerely
